PRIDE Renamed Amplify

On November 2, 2008, PRIDE of St. Tammany became Amplify Resources. For 25 years, the organization has been working to reduce substance use among youth and their families in the community and develop leadership skills in young people.

Because of the success of these efforts, our organization has been asked to train other communities in how to duplicate some of our programs elsewhere.

Our organization began as the Northlake Substance Abuse Task Force. In the mid 80′s, we partnered with a national organization, PRIDE Inc., and used many of their parenting and youth programs. As we have grown and developed our own programming, the board of directors felt it was important for us to expand and train others under a name unique to our organization.

After several brainstorming meetings, a young person who had been very active in our programs had the idea for “Amplify.”

After researching other groups around the country and getting opinions from youth and adults, it was decided that we would become Amplify Youth and Community Resources.

Amplify Supports 21 Drinking Age

There has been a recent effort to gather support from a small amount of college presidents to reduce the drinking age from 21 to 18. Amplify is opposed to this effort as we believe it will cause underage drinking rates to rise and cuase further deaths and injuries to persons under 21.

The Amethyst Initiative are the organizers of the efforts to re-examine the 21 drinking age with the possibility of lowering it to 18. At last check, there were no Louisiana schools on the list of supporters of the initiative. Amplify encourages you to contact the presidents of the Louisiana colleges and thank them for not signing on to the initiative. Dr. Randy Moffett is the president of the University of Louisiana system.

MADD has researched the 21 drinking age extensively and has developed the WHY 21 website with information justifying the 21 drinking age as well as a pledge you can sign in support of the 21 drinking age.

Research has proven to us that the 21 drinking age saves lives. It is important that the law remains 21. Please show your support.
