Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week is celebrated the third week in October each year. It began as a memorial for fallen DEA agent Enrique Camerena, who was killed in the line of duty while fighting the Mexican drug cartel in 1985.
Amplify assists the St. Tammany Parish Schools with their Red Ribbon Week celebrations each year. Over 30,000 red wristbands are given to elementary, middle and high school students, as well as posters and flyers for each school.
2010 marked the 25th anniversary of Red Ribbon Week. This year’s theme was “Celebrating 25 Years of Red Ribbon Week, Celebrating Being Drug Free.”
